About Saint Pio of Pietrelcina
Born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina, Italy in 1887, he became a Capuchin friar taking the name Pio. He received the stigmata in 1918 and bore the wounds of Christ until his death in 1968. He founded the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (Home for Relief of Suffering) hospital. His feast day is celebrated on September 23rd. He was beatified in 1999 and canonized in 2002.
