Rare and beautiful Larimar is found in only one place in the world - approximately ½ square mile in the mountains in the Southern part of the Dominican Republic!

Originally discovered in 1916 as Pectolite. It was rediscovered in 1974 by Miguel Mendez and Norman Rilling, a Peace Corps Volunteer from the USA, in the Dominican Republic. They renamed this Gemstone “Larimar” as the combination of Mendez’s daughter’s name (Larissa) and “Mar” (sea).

Sometimes called the Stone of the Caribbean or the Mermaid Stone for its beautiful hues of light blue resemble that of the shallow blue waters you see off of hundreds of Caribbean beaches.

Other names for Larimar include Blue Stone, Dolphin Stone, and even Atlantis Stone.
